It always irks me when characters who supposedly survive in their original media are killed off in another. Quirrell always intrigued me and I never really considered he had died after Voldemort left him. As stated, he gets blisters and is seemingly 'burned' by touching Harry, enough that he shrieks in pain and wrenches his arm away from Harry. Afterwards, pain and flesh wounds would be something that a knowledgeable wizard, especially one who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts, and who is skilled enough to use wandless magic, would be able to sooth to some degree with a spell or some such. Also, the fact that Dumbledore tells Harry that Quirrell died - now knowing how often Dumbledore lied, especially to Harry, and especially to his own benefit - makes it seem like a far reach to be true. If Quirrell could not heal himself, Dumbledore more than likely could stabilize him to a degree. Dumbledore even states that he arrives within moments of the confrontation between Harry and Quirrell.
To that point, Dumbledore could easily have maintained Quirrell to interrogate him, to pull memories from him for the pensieve to better understand them, and - though Dumbledore was perhaps not the best person, did seemingly care for his staff, so he could simply have whisked Quirrell away to St. Mungo's for some kind of treatment - getting any information out of him later.
This is what I always believed to be true. That Quirrell is alive, healed to a certain extent and is enlisted by Dumbledore to work behind the scenes for the Order of the Phoenix, perhaps even fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts years later -a little revenge for what happened to him several years earlier.
To this line of thinking, I've also envisioned him returning to Hogwarts to once again take up the posting of Defense Against the Dark Arts after the Battle of Hogwarts. This time however, he is using a pseudonym and is nearly unrecognizable as he is near completely covered in bandages - sort of like a mummy - to hide the scarring that he received from Harry. Without the curse upon the job, he is able to continue teaching year after year.

Re: What Is the Point of Argus Filch?

I've a theory that Filch is a savant. We are told that all a Muggle would see if they saw Hogwarts is a moldering old ruin and signs saying to keep out. Filch has no problems interacting with the castle, so he has at least that much magic. He's also capable of spotting contraband magical joke items and dark magical items. So he's got enough magic to do that. I suspect that we see him cleaning because he wants to take some of the load off the House Elves. His general disposition towards the students is because he just doesn't know how to get along with a lot of people. He also has the "Learn Magic Fast with Kwikspell" correspondence course suggesting that he has a wand. I think he has magic, plenty of magic, but the only way he can express that magic is through the care and restoration of magical items such as enchanted paintings. As for JKR, I doubt we'll ever get anything out of her because I doubt she has clue one just how complicated restoring an old painting is. She'll probably be like, oh he put it back together with spell-o-tape. We saw his office twice in the series and if she had intended that to be is true calling instead of just a casual, he fixed the painting, we'd likely have seen a painting in his office being worked on. One other thing was the writing on the wall in Chamber of Secrets. It was simply assumed that Filch would be able to deal with it instead of leaving it to a more competent teacher.

Re: Jessie Spano from “Saved by the Bell” the inspiration for Hermione Granger?

Yes, it WAS shown in the UK. Apparating seems more dangerous to me, and it's allowed after a certain time of training and years of age... I don't think we can trust the Ministry of Magic to judge what's good and what's not for the wizards in general; I think that is the overall message from the books.

2. The 2 schools were supposed to take less than 12 students each to compete, but Karkaroff was eager to win and distrustful of Dumbledore, so Maxime did the same... Again, I feel the books are showing us how children are portrayed to be the more fragile link and susceptible to adults' egocentric and violent behavior.

3. Crouch is afraid of what will happen to Harry if he doesn't participate; he said it's a contract that must be fulfilled. Even though, like you said, it's not a blood pact. Besides, they think they've got it all under control, adults being adults. But also, they don't know Voldemort is behind all that; they find it weird, and they don't have the whole picture.

4. I guess it would be for us to see, but also to root for your house, moral support and all that. Still confusing and boring, though.

5. We don't know, right? Harry just says the common room is always full of students, talking loudly.

6. Voldemort said he needed time to prepare the enchantment and to regain a little strength also. Besides, a part of him still fears Dumbledore.

7. They never assumed he was innocent. That's the Ministry of Magic, always knowing what's best for the wizarding world...

Overall I don't see all these points as plot holes; some of them leave us more in the dark than in the light because we know everything through Harry's perspective, and Harry is still a child. Some I feel was J.K. trying to convey her beliefs. Maybe number 6 was a plot hole but intended to be so she could tell us the story.
Otherwise we wouldn't have the books lol.

Re: In My Mind, Harry Potter Is Indian

Nonsense. He interrogatet her, used legilimency, but also tortured her, and I guess for they a wizard needs to carry a wand. So he had to have a body to carry the wand with. Therefore Nagini was the one to give him that body before Bertha's interrogation.

Re: Nagini and Voldemort’s Twisted Relationship

Bravo! This is terrific theory! I totally think it's true. Expecially considering Jo's comment to her editor and their reaction.
I think it was Nagini, who carried new Voldy's body, not Bertha. Some snakes can have as short a pregnancy as 1 month. Wheres for humans it takes at least 7 months for fetus to get a newborn-like form.
Also, as it was mentioned, Voldemort has snake nostrils after rebirth, i.e. he inherited some mother's features.
Dumbledore mentions to Harry, that Voldemort is attached to Nagini more than to any other being. Why? He was thirst for motherly love.. he couldn't forgive Merope her weakness to die and thus he hated mere idea of death. In Nagini he found mother, whom he could control.
Lastly there is this red thread of mothers love and their children in the whole series. Nagini as Voldy's mum is a nice juxtaposition to other mums, like Narcissa, Molly, Lily.
Omg, I'm impressed. I've been always imagining new Voldemort's body manifesting in a cauldron. By why an ugly fetus/newborn then? He cold use magic to manifest a stronger, better body. Yeah, I thin he was conceived in the snakes body. Harry accidentally blew up Marge because he's still inexperienced and can't fully control his magical abilities, as has been explained multiple times since Book 1. He should've been penalized for it but Fudge decided to overlook it.

2. Students don't need special permission for activities taking place on Hogwarts grounds but as every kid that's ever taken a field trip knows, parents must give permission for them to leave school property - the lack of danger in a visit to town is irrelevant.

3. Butterbeer only has a very small amount of alcohol, which produces a warming feeling but not drunkenness, whereas firewhiskey is fully alcoholic and only available to those 17+. Remember, these books take place in the UK, where the min drinking age is 16 with parents and 18 to purchase alone.

6. The time turner was given to Hermione with the Ministry's permission for the express purpose of getting to multiple overlapping classes. The fact that McGonnegal and Dumbledore vouched for her shows they knew she was responsible enough to use it properly.

It's easy to read too much into certain aspects of the vast and detailed HP universe but many, like those mentioned in this list, aren't more complicated than they appear.

Re: Seven Things That Don’t Make Sense in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”

The next time you respond to an article you disagree with, try doing so without being rude, condescending and sanctimonious. Although explained only in the book (not the film), Crouch Jr put a charm on the Goblet of Fire to make it "think" 4 schools were competing and then submitted Harry's name as the only student from said fake school.
This is how Harry ended up as a contestant and when the teachers were discussing whether or not he could/should compete, Crouch Sr said Harry could face dire consequences, including death, if he did not.

As for fireplace communication, just because only Sirius and Harry are shown meeting this way, doesn't mean nobody else could. It's simply implied that this is just one way to communicate in the magical world.

Per both the books and movies, the use of Veritaserum is illegal without expressed authorization of the Ministry for Magic as it's a violation of free will, forces "truth" and is easily abused (as by Umbridge). Also, skilled witches & wizards can resist it and/or have antidotes, thereby rendering it a powerful but imperfect potion that's rightfully controlled.

Re: Albus Dumbledore and the Sorcerer’s Stone

A thought: each kid from the Trio has one test to pass (from 2-6), only Hermione has two (Potions logic problem and Devil’s Snare). I think Devil’s Snare was intended for Nevill initially. He shines at Herbalogy and he would taim the plant. But Trio petrified him and left overboard.
Eventually Nevill was the one to kill Nagini. Nevill also went to the Ministry. Presumably Dumbledore wanted Nevill to become a part of Harries team. Remember, he was also sent to the Forbidden forest. His contribution made Gryffindor win the first year cup.

Fun fact: if there were four of them, Harrie's team would include a representative for each faculty:
- Ron - truly belongs to Gryffindor
- Harry - potentially could go to Slytherin
- Hermione - potentially could go to Ravenclaw
- Nevill - really seems a Hafflepuff

Re: Albus Dumbledore and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Thanks for this wonderful article - I agree with all described. TBH, Essiedu would be wasted as Shacklebolt, a great side character but hardly a complex player in the grand scheme. I definitely understand the anxiety; this has been a journey for me. Snape is so vividly realised, in tone and behaviour, motivation and also his physicality, and the value he adds to the narrative in terms of depth and suspense makes him vastly more critical than - well, sorry, Kingsley - we love that you're there, but this tale could have been told without you. Love or loathe him, the same cannot be said of Snape, who demands before all else an actor capable of working out and expressing what makes him tick. Before the casting was announced, I stressed over whether they would find a near-enough match to the individual I saw and heard progressing through the books. I’d had issues with Rickman, even though I like him a lot and can see traces of Snape in several of his previous iconic roles. But in his 50s / 60s he was too old to convince as a man who is 31 when we first meet him. So it became necessary to just accept that this version was quite a bit older. A bigger obstacle (for me) was how his Snape came across as a lugubrious, inscrutable and vaguely Byronic figure, at odds with the character as written. But in the end, Rickman created his own thing and it was possible to give in and enjoy the interpretation. This is a big opportunity to get nearer, so we all have our must-haves. Possibly Essiedu being the right age carries more weight with me than it will for many. And I can't lie - at first the casting decision felt startling, for the obvious reason. Then the penny dropped: they'd never be able to produce a replica of the wizard I imagined when reading the books. It’s liberating. Those who are passionate about this project have lived and breathed the books at some point in our lives. We don’t need a film of precisely the way it played in our heads; we’ve already got that. As far as Snape is concerned, the character and his story are so rich in texture that, above all, the portrayer needs acting chops. If Snape's vibe can be achieved, it will count for way more than the trademark sallow complexion. Letting go of that stuff means I can get excited about what Essiedu may bring to the cauldron, and be intrigued to see how the challenges the show runners have set themselves will be met. Whether or not this bold choice pays off will depend on a lot more than the ethnicity of the actor. Sorry for the essay - it’s because I agree that this matters. Not as a ‘woke’ talking point, but in terms of doing justice to the story and the character, which is the essence of what fans are concerned about.

Re: Jason Isaacs Defends Paapa Essiedu’s Casting as Snape in HBO’s new “Harry Potter” TV Show

The comments by Isaacs quoted above seem pretty straightforward.

Re: Universal Studios Hollywood Is Now Serving Honey Mead

I have been there and had the mead. It is delightful on a typical hot, sunny day. There also seem to be some subtle spice notes that might make it work well on a cold day too. Sour meads have been a thing for a while now, and historically, a sour fermentation with organisms alongside saccaromyces cervasiea were probably prevelant in mead making.

Re: Seven Things That Don’t Make Sense in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”

Are y’all gonna make more posts?
